Masturbation is the act of exciting your genitals to achieve sexual arousal and pleasure. Typically, it’s sustained to the point of orgasm (also known as sexual climax). Usually done by, gently touching, fondling, or massaging the genitals till an orgasm is reached. It is common for people to employ the use of sex toys such as vibrator (as used by women) or lotion (common with men).

The subject of masturbation can never get old as it always approached in a new and fascinating angle. Thomas W Laqueur, a professor of history at the University of California at Berkeley, claimed the act originated in about 1712, born of a tract that named a new disease and single-handedly created a “nearly universal engine for generating guilt, shame, and anxiety” [1]

My motivation to write on this subject is borne of the fact that people would love to read about this interesting act of pleasure and has nothing to do with my personal sexual preferences. Yes, I know when it comes to the subject of masturbation; nobody is totally innocent or naïve even though most would not publicly agree. But deep inside we know the truth and your secret is safe with you. That brings us to the next mind bugging question.

Hmmn, I can hear the self-righteous ones singling themselves out again. Even though statistics have shown that just about everyone is guilty in this particular court including the chief judge. In a national study conducted in the US a decade ago, it was found that 95% of males and 89% of females reported that they have masturbated. With inaugural action, right from their childhood!

Most people continue to masturbate in adulthood, and many do so throughout their lives. Regardless of marital or financial status, countless create a career in the solitary sex industry. Seriously, according to forbs ‘’globally, the sex toy industry is predicted to grow by $9.9 billion between 2019 and 2023’’ [2].

The simple answer to who masturbates the most is; guys! Kudos to the guys, the full answer is more characterized by subtle shades of implications. Preceding puberty, more girls than boys masturbate. Both are low-slung numbers, but our little angles win out. This is probably because it is easier for girls to accidentally discover solitary sex, and partly because girls are more commonly abused, which makes them sexually aware. According to NHS UK “The average age of puberty for girls in the UK is 12 to 13, 13 to 14 for boys’’.

From puberty onward, the guys are much more likely to overtake the ladies in the masturbation tournaments and do so more often. Numerous times a day is not unusual when a boy’s hormones kick in. they even do it in their sleep and that’s how they invented wet dreams and hand babies. There are bountiful reasons for this; but the giant umbrella reason is that male masturbation it’s less branded than female masturbation.

Subsequently, after puberty, women masturbate less often, but gradually gain ground as they get older. When comparing frequency of masturbation in middle age, ladies probably win out.  Almost levelling the points earlier gained by the guys. Partly because, with advancement in age, a good number of men develop prostate problems and therefore loses interest in masturbation.

Unexpectedly, people do not like the idea that women should have sexual thoughts. People assume ladies to be reserved and dare not overtly exhibit her sexuality.

A porn hub statistics released in 2016 from a keyword research reveals that women are four times less likely to masturbate than men. The table below is a data from a research conducted by national survey of sexual health and behavior which further buttress the point.

Neither men nor women need to masturbate, however men do have an insubstantial biological reason to back up their solitary sexual act. Men do need to release some sperm once in a while since they make thousands of sperm cells every day. According to science, during sperm production (a process known as spermatogenesis) a man’s testicles are capable of making several millions of sperm per day, about 1,500 per second. By the end of a full sperm production cycle, a man can regenerate up to 8 billion sperm cells. That is enough to repopulate the universe with human beings and spirits. Well done guys!

While am not trying to let the reader guess which sexual divide I belong to, from experience there’s also erections. These happen every day and the best way to get rid of them is by ejaculating. Since they’re annoying and scriptural therapy do not work all the time, that’s the perfect excuse.

However, there is the clitoris. I am guessing its only purpose is for sexual pleasure. That’s why I am wondering why our fore mothers survive with theirs cut off. Well, maybe like me they too were curious as to why the clitoris exists, since a female orgasm isn’t required for reproduction, even if there are claims by scientist in the twenty-first century that an orgasm can make the sperm more receptive. Seriously this scientist guys research everything!

Even though I am not the expert here, I guess masturbation invokes a feel good sensation; the solitary act is a good way of relieving the sexual tension that can build up over time. Especially, for some guys maintaining a healthy relationship is quite expensive these days. Other indulges for a good reason may be due to death or chronic illness of a partner, or whose partners are not willing or available for sex or due to religious reasons. Can I hear an Amen!

A lot of women when pregnant or breastfeeding, sex is a no go area, and that’s how masturbation takes over their faithful husbands. Masturbation is a safe sexual alternative for people who wish to avoid infidelity, pregnancy and the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases. It also is deployed during sperm donation, necessary when a man must give a semen sample for infertility testing.

I saw a post the other day on Nigerian social forum), a guy was seriously lamenting how he met a lady he thought was clean, turns out she had a foul rotten fishy smell coming from down there and that how he vowed to subscribe to the masturbation channel. You can’t blame him though; yeast infection in Nigeria is quite expensive to treat and the (NHIS) National Health insurance scheme does not cover that.

Also, people masturbate when there is a sexual dysfunction; masturbation may be prescribed by a sex therapist to allow such a person to climax (experience an orgasm) a lot in women or to delay its arrival as the case may be in men.

People say a lot of wild things about masturbation, things like it makes people grow hair in unusual places; it causes infertility; it reduces the size of the genitals; of course there is the mention of the addictive part of masturbation. None of things misconceptions are true. If they were, a lot of people would not have their genitals still shining; I mean, some genitals would have vanished by now. Even some of my childhood friends would be apes by today with hair all over their body.

Scientifically speaking masturbation isn’t unhealthy or bad at all. The solitary act can actually be good for the health, both mentally and physically. Now, am not prescribing anything here, before the pastors reading tell God about me. Frankly speaking its pretty much the safest and most affordable sex out there with no risk of getting pregnant, getting an STD and you don’t have to spend a dime. Should I increase the volume?

According to my biology teacher when a person has an orgasm, his or her body releases endorphins, which are feel good hormones that block pain and make you feel happy. The good thing about your body is it doesn’t care if you did it with a partner or not, the feel good hormone that accompanies an orgasm is still released by your brain.

If you notice I used the word “your” intentionally so nobody with call my name when you bruise your genital to vigorous self sex.

Numerous research by ‘’you know who’’ has shown the health benefits of masturbation to include: – release sexual tension – help you sleep better -improve your self – esteem and body image – help treat sexual problems – relieve menstrual cramps and muscle tension -strengthen muscle tone in your pelvic and anal areas- reduce stress. Even though, you’ll still be stressed if you can pay your rent. Masturbation also can be likened to choir rehearsals; it helps you figure out your part, but sexually this time. Like; where you are your sensitive areas? How much energy feels good? What tempo?

Taking time to figure these things out can be the difference in your relationship, learning to climax on your own can make it easier to have an orgasm with a partner, because you understand your body and can tell them how you want it or show them what feels good. Personally, I think when you’re comfortable with your sexuality, your body, and communicating with your spouse, there is a great chance of avoiding STDs and unwanted pregnancy.

I recall and incident that happened the other day, when I was in my bathroom, I overheard my neighbor mumbling something like ‘’go and marry, before you rape us one day in this house’’. That wasn’t me in case you’re wondering; some people often masturbate — every day, or even more than once a day. Some people masturbate once a week according to doctor’s prescription, once every few weeks, now and then or some even think about masturbation while masturbating. Nevertheless, some people under no circumstances masturbate, and that’s fine too. According to science all these habits are perfectly normal.

Masturbation only becomes “too much” if it gets in the way of your job, your responsibilities, or your social life. If that’s a problem for you, you may want to talk to a counselor or therapist.

Some people learn when they’re young that masturbating is wrong or bad, some religious houses openly kick again masturbation labelling it as devilish. All this point of view can induce a feeling of guilty about masturbation. My only advice on this masturbation movement is, ‘’If you feel that way, try to remember that most people masturbate’’. Even that pastor who told you masturbation is evil might secretly be tapping that voltage in his or her quiet time.  It’s perfectly normal, and there’s nothing wrong with it. Consulting to a counselor or a sex therapist may help if you have trouble getting over guilty feelings.

My stand on this is purely personal devoid of scientific, religious or societal view, “definitely yes!” Lots of people in relationships are masturbating. Masturbating when you’re in a relationship doesn’t mean your partner isn’t satisfying you. It’s a great way to figure out what you actually like and what makes you climax. Even though, a lot of relationships aren’t satisfying or not sexual at all. Some people are in certain relationships because they feel they have no other option.

Some people even emotionally blackmail their spouse and use sex as a bargaining chip to get whatever they want. These are not healthy habits, especially in couples who want to build a home together. If this is your story, try to talk things out with your partner and find other ways to resolve issues in your relationship.

Then gradually, you can show or tell your partner what feels good. Talking about sex with your partner can never get old; it can make the relationship more fun and can even make your relationship stronger. Some people masturbate at the same time as their partner. It’s a way of bonding with your partner without having any risk of STDs or pregnancy.

The Catholic Church doesn’t support any sexual act outside of marriage and especially not for procreation. In 1975, Pope Paul VI outlined why masturbation is wrong in a declaration on human sexuality called Persona Humana[4].

It’s worthy to note that most conservative Christians do not support masturbation, even though masturbation is not explicitly mentioned in the good book. Some Christians often conclude that masturbation itself is not a sin, but it is often related to lust and pornography, which is believed to be, sinful!

However, most liberal Christians do not classify masturbation to be morally offensive, this category of Christians incorporate scientific research and findings into their beliefs. As Beliefnet’s Pastor Paul says: “I put masturbation in the same category as alcohol. It’s a natural act and one that most people engage in, whether they publicly acknowledge it or not. Done occasionally, its fine, but when it becomes an obsession or an addiction, it should be stopped, because at that point it alienates us from God.”

Pagans and Wiccans agree upon a construct that human sexuality is very important and often integrate sexuality into their religious practice. That being established, they tend to have a more liberal sexual ethic than many other religions, and therefore are unlikely to condemn masturbation.

According to Hinduism, sexual pleasure is part of kama, one of the four goals of life. On the matter of masturbation, Hindu scripture is silent (not much is written on the subject), neither labelling bad nor encouraging the practice. I bet Hindu followers are left at their discretion when it comes to the subject of masturbation.

Traditional Islamic thought regards masturbation as haram, or forbidden. This is usually based upon several Qur’an and Hadith verses, which state that people should refrain from illegal sexual acts. An astute interpretation of these verses can be found here. For a different view, see “Masturbation Is Not Haram.”

The Mormon Church denomination strongly condemns masturbation and teaches that it is a sin. The ecclesiastical movement teaches that followers should learn to overcome the urge to indulge in the solitary sexual act to preserve the purity of procreation, and Mormons must control sexual desires until marriage.

Buddhism stand point on masturbation is not clear as regards ordinary followers, even though it is a taboo by the Buddha’s rules for monks and nuns, who are supposed to live celibate and chaste lives. Generally, Buddhist teachers endorse keeping track of wishful desires and the circuitry these desires loop around us.
